STO Credits: 50 Freakin’ Years!
Can you believe it!? Star Trek‘s 50 years old as of 2016! This is a huge milestone for the franchise and both Star Trek Fans and those involved in the series have been jumping through hoops to prepare for whatever celebrations they’ll be having this year.
While news of a live concert, a one-off anniversary episode, or whatever else you find on the internet, a certain fan of the franchise, and a player of the amazing Star Trek Online (STO) game, made a nifty tribute video for the occasion. Using footage from the STO, he attempted to recreate his favorite moments and sense from the franchise, as well as a few of his own original tributes.

Star Trek has inspired countless people and has served to churn the creative juices of many people in the entertainment industry today. At the risk of getting stoned to death, it’s without a doubt that Star Trek had a big influence even over the Star Wars franchise which has a powerful influence all on its own. And its influence wasn’t only found in the like-minded space epic, but even shows like South Park, The Simpsons, Crimson Tide, and a whole lot of unrelated shows can trace their roots to the very existence of Star Trek.
But Star Trek isn’t only influential in entertainment, but a lot of technological marvels we have today came from the series first as concepts. This list oncludes the invention of the cell phone and tablets that we use today. There are many other inventions that may have not be realized in our present times were it not for the creativity and ingenuity of the original writers of Star Trek.
Heck, even in the Civil Rights movement, Star Trek also had a pronounced influence. This is due to the original series having the first multiracial cast and has continued to do so since then. This was a huge triumph in civil rights because shows back then were either all white or… yeah, well, all white.
